Submissions
Korall welcomes previously unpublished articles, book reviews, source publications and conference reports in the field of social history. Manuscripts should be sent by e-mail to the editorial office at korall@korall.org.
All submissions are considered on the basis of their scholarly merit alone. Manuscripts from early-career researchers and doctoral students are assessed by the same standards as those of established scholars. By submitting a manuscript, the author accepts the journal’s publication and citation guidelines and its publication ethics.
What to submit
- The manuscript, in a word-processed file. Please use your word processor’s automatic footnote function.
- Tables and figures in a separate file as well.
- An abstract of 1,000–1,500 characters in Hungarian and an abstract of the same length in English. Authors who do not write Hungarian may submit the English abstract only; the editorial office will arrange the Hungarian version.
- Five to eight keywords in Hungarian and in English.
- Your institutional affiliation and, if you have one, your ORCID iD.
- Funding information, where applicable: the name of the funder and the grant number.
Length and format
A manuscript may not exceed one signature, that is 60,000 characters including spaces. Manuscripts accepted for publication that exceed this limit are returned to the author for shortening.
Korall accepts manuscripts prepared exclusively according to its own citation system. Texts accepted for publication but not conforming to it are returned to the author for revision.
Peer review
Every study submitted to Korall is assessed in a double-blind peer review process by at least two reviewers with expertise in the field. Reviewers do not learn the identity of the author, and authors do not learn the identity of the reviewers. Book reviews, reports, source publications and interviews are not sent out for external review; they are accepted or declined on the basis of internal editorial assessment.
The editorial office aims to inform authors of the outcome within six months of submission.
Publication and access
Korall appears in print and online. In accordance with the terms of the funding that supports its print edition, the full text of an article becomes freely available on the journal’s website and in the Hungarian Electronic Periodicals Archive (epa.oszk.hu) six months after publication; abstracts and metadata are open from the day of publication. We therefore ask authors not to share the full text of their article on social media or academic networking platforms during those six months. Authors who do not wish their article to be made available online are asked to inform the editorial office in writing.
Authors retain the copyright of their work and grant the journal the right of first publication. Articles are published under a Creative Commons Attribution-NonCommercial 4.0 International (CC BY-NC 4.0) licence.
The journal charges no submission or publication fees of any kind. Each author receives two complimentary copies of the issue (one in the case of a review).
Manuscripts are not returned.
